QbD Group Foundation: anchoring our social commitment
To truly embed our social commitment in a structured way, the QbD Group launched the ‘Group Foundation’ on December 23, 2022.
The foundation’s statutes establish 4 main goals:
- supporting science – with a focus on the activities of the QbD Group
- helping individuals and their families facing health threats (e.g. payment for studies, treatments, therapy, etc.)
- protecting the environment (e.g. by supporting innovative research, reducing our carbon footprint, plogging, …)
- monitoring the QbD Group’s social commitment (on CSG and sustainability)
By establishing the foundation, the QbD Group aims to provide resources – funds, but rather time, skills and expertise – for various local projects that have a positive impact on society.
With the QbD Foundation, we truly want to have a local impact wherever the QbD Group operates and has affiliates. The closer we are to our charity projects, the more tangible and visible they become, for us and for others. There is much suffering in the world, and we won't be able to solve it all, but if we start with things we can directly affect and see around us, then we are already a step ahead.
The QbD Group Foundation also seeks to involve colleagues in identifying charities and fundraising ideas that align with its core values and 4 main goals.
In order to boost the foundation’s impact on initiative selection, it will be crucial to establish a network of employees alongside the board, integrating it into the organization.
This way, we really hope to make social commitment an integral part of our corporate social responsibility.
3 charities in the spotlight
Research Chair for Precision Oncology Research in Glioblastoma: supporting science
The QbD Group is sponsoring a Research Chair for Precision Oncology Research in Glioblastoma (the most treatment-resistant and deadliest brain cancer) at the KU Leuven. In this way, the QbD Group is funding the research work of Prof. Frederik De Smet and Prof. Pieter Van Vlierberghe, combining the passion for life science and social engagement.
Pieter was a close friend of the QbD management team. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2020 and unfortunately succumbed to the disease in 2022 after a courageous battle.
Haz feliz a un niño: supporting children in vulnerable communities
Every year, our local QbD Colombia team, their family, clients, and friends collect funds and donate hundreds of toys, clothes, and briefcases to children in vulnerable communities, as they are the future of our society.
Next, they organize a day of fun activities for them with food and entertainment. At the end of the day, they all receive a gift with a lovely, encouraging note. The smiles on their faces and the love they give back are priceless!
Plogging for a cleaner environment
“Plogging” comes from the Swedish word “Plokka op” and “jogga” which means “picking up trash while running“. But of course, we can do it while walking or even paddleboarding!
Plogging is a global movement that anyone can join and it directly helps your community. Last year, we collected 43 bags of trash with a total of 100 kilograms of waste! Not bad, right?
